Letter from the Mission President

The other day we received a letter and a picture from the mission home. I can honestly say it's much different being on the other end of this experience. Jordan's letters are very positive and upbeat. He talks mostly about the work he's doing and who he's teaching. We are very proud of him and know he is doing the Lord's work.

Mission Office address

Since we don't know Jordan's address yet, here is the mission office address. For packages, this is where they should be sent anyway to make sure they get to him.

Jordan has arrived in HOUSTON!!!

Jordan flew out to Houston at around 8:25 yesterday morning. We got to talk to him while he was in the airport waiting to get on the plane. He sound so good!  He was a little nervous about the flight since he had never been on a plane before. He sounded confident and very sure of himself. He knows what he's doing is right and it is important to him to serve the Lord.

The picture above was taken on the night of Wednesday October 5th 2010 in the mission home were he had some training and a wonderful dinner with his mission President, who is also in the picture. Just a soon as we have his new address, I'll post it here on the blog.

Getting ready for HOUSTON!!!!

On October 5th Jordan will be flying out to his area of service.  His letters have expressed a great deal of excitement and I'm sure he's ready to see what it's really like.  I kind of wish I was him.  I talked to the mission home yesterday to make sure his bike was taken care of and they are excited for this new batch of missionaries. It seems, based on the senior missionary I spoke to, there is a lot of exciting things happening in the Texas, Houston South Mission.  Baptisms are strong and I have a great feeling that Jordan has a lot of wonderful things ahead of him.

One note: Just before he leaves for Texas, he will be singing in the priesthood session of General Conference.  He was very excited about this and I'm sure this will be one of the first in a long line of memories throughout his mission.  Pleas keep Jordan in your prayers.  Help him find those searching for the restored Gospel through you thoughts, prayers and supportive letters.  We love him very much and are very proud of him.

Here are more of Jordan's pictures from the MTC.  Yesterday was his 20th birthday and I think he enjoyed the packages we sent him.  He's still anxious to get to Houston but he is working hard at learning the language as best he can before going out.  He's very close to his district and seems to be enjoying every minute of the MTC.  He has had the chance to listen to Elder Holland and was able to take notes and get a lot out of his talk.  We're so proud of Jordan

Pictures from the MTC

Today is Jordan's 3rd week in the MTC and to celebrate we are going to put up some pictures of him, his companion and district.  He still wants everyone to write as much as they can so keep it up.

Jordan's first letter from the MTC

Well things are going great here. The first couple of days were really hard and stressful but each day gets better. I can’t wait to get to Houston. My companions name is elder Sheridan and he is a really nice guy. I am getting to know him pretty well and we get along great. My district has twelve missionaries and 7 of them are going to the same mission as me. The others are going to the Fresno California Spanish speaking mission. Most people in my district are from Utah but there is one elder from Tennessee and one from Nebraska and one from Boise. They are all nice. Everyone in my district is great buddies. I have learned a little Spanish and say all my prayers in Spanish now. it is definitely different here. it is weird having someone follow you everywhere you go. i have never studied or worked so hard in my life

I have learned so much in my short time here. The days seem like they will never end. i know that things will get better and i will learn a whole lot more. I still can’t imagine that this is the next two years of my life but i am excited to get out there and start teaching about the gospel. i know that this is going to be a good experience.

Tell mom I love her and I am doing great and working hard. Tell her she doesn’t have to worry about me and I will be just fine. The spirit here is strong and everyone has a strong testimony and a purpose for being here. I am grateful for all the things that you guys have done for me and I can’t wait to hear from you again. Have people send me letters. I haven’t got any letters yet and i want to hear from people.

I love you and mom and i will email you every Friday in the MTC because that is our p day. Talk to you later

Jordan at the MTC

The drop off went as well as could be expected.  Jordan seemed a little overwhelmed but I could be wrong.  Both Lisa and I had a very tough time driving away and leaving our son there but felt great comfort from the Lord knowing he was doing the right thing and is under His care

Here are a few pictures

Lisa has been struggling with leg pain for a while now but she was not going to miss this for anything - but she was in a lot of pain, as you may be able to tell from the picture.

The First Post - Six Days Until the MTC

OK, well we are almost there.  In an effort to keep everyone informed, and so I don't have to forward a bunch of emails, I've started this blog for friends and family.  I hope every one enjoys it.  Well will do our best to keep it up to date with pictures and everything, so be patient with us.  We'll let you know how the MTC Trip went.
